DOCKSIDE MARKET, NORTH TEXAS’ FIRST AND ONLY NAUTICAL FLEA MARKET AND SWAP MEET, AT DALLAS SUMMER BOAT SHOW AND SALE – BENEFITS THE WOODEN BOAT ASSOCIATION OF NORTH TEXAS

Whether you normally spend like a sailor or just love searching for bargains at swap-meets and flea markets, the Dockside Market, the second weekend of the Dallas Summer Boat Show and Sale -- July 23-25 at Market Hall in Dallas, is the perfect place to be.  A portion of the proceeds of the Market benefits the Wooden Boat Association of North Texas.

Market shoppers with a nautical bent will find super deals on antique and classic boat hardware, excess marine equipment, spare parts, used engines, water sports equipment, nautical and decorative antiques and collectibles, marine art and related items at a great savings.

Dealers are cleaning out their storage areas of left-over merchandise, boating accessories, safety gear, boat tops, and other goodies to add to the great “steals and deals” at the Market. Slip storage and home workshops are being emptied of unneeded equipment so that there will be room for new treasures found at the Market.  For information about reserving a space, email Bob Van Guilder at bobtrane@ix.netcom.com

The Wooden Boat Association of North Texas has been around since the 1980’s and is proud of its motto, "the hands-on wooden boat club."   According to David Kanally, the association’s newsletter editor and proud owner of a 1957 Cowell outboard, “The purpose of the Wooden Boat Association of North Texas is to restore, preserve, display and (most importantly) enjoy antique and classic wooden boats.”

The approximately 70 active members are owners of wooden boats dating between 1930’s to 1970’s with most made in the 1940’s and 1950’s.  They enjoy restoring and using boats from a variety of manufacturers including Chris Craft, Garwood, Century, Hacker Craft, Lyman's, Cowell, Dallas-made Willis, and Denison’s own Yellow Jacket.

The club has an annual "Ride 'n Show" weekend event in late August in conjunction with the Southwest Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. This event features a barbecue, a boat show attended by the public, and a Sunday morning run across Lake Lewisville in their classic boats. The club also participates in numerous other shows in North Texas, and sends a delegation to the internationally known "Keels and Wheels" show in Clear Lake in May.

Take a break from shopping for a new boat and visit the Dockside Market.  Meet some of the very interesting association members and see what great treasures are waiting to be taken home.
