Holiday Party December 7!

President Phil and First Lady Karen Brosseau are looking forward to hosting the club at their home on December 7 for the annual WBA Holiday Party. Dues paying members should have received an eVite with all the necessary details. If you have not received your eVite, please let Phil know right away! We want to be sure that all our current members are included in the invitation.

Here's to the start of a joyous Christmas season!

Welcome to our New VP and Treasurer!

Congratulations and thanks go to Craig Godfrey, who has been elected to serve as our new Vice-President. Craig is one of the Century Partners, seen here with their beautifully restored Century Sabre. Welcome to your new job, Craig! Craig assumes duties from outgoing VP and fellow Century Partner Alan Oppenheimer, who has served the club well over the past year, organizing great programs for our meetings.

Chris McKeehan has jumped right into full participation in the club, working on the 1959 Chris-Craft Continental with hubby Mark. Chris recently sold her rock-climbing gym business, so has been devoting many hours to the project boat. Welcome to the Treasurer's role, Chris! Chris steps into the very big shoes of Scott "FT" (Faithful Treasurer) Reichardt who has served the club in that capacity since January of 2016. See Shop Talk and Musings below.

Don't Forget to Winterize Your Boat!

Our favorite snowler bear is back, reminding you that freezing weather is just around the corner. As the colder weather arrives, don't forget to winterize your boat. Drain all the water from the engine, stabilize your fuel, and take all the precautions necessary to make sure you'll be ready to go for next season. If you own an outboard motor, be sure to drain the lower unit (it is very common for water to get in there), and replace the lubricant with fresh stuff.

There are a variety of techniques published on line for this procedure if you are new to our hobby. Here's a link to the ACBS article on the subject.

John Ables Explains Traditional vs Electronic Ignition Systems at Nov. Meeting

During the November 21, 2024 meeting of the WBA, the Club members present elected officers for the coming year: Phil Brosseau, President; Craig Godfrey, Vice-President; Trey Bull, Secretary; and Chris McKeehan, Treasurer.

In addition, John Ables gave a very interesting and thorough presentation on traditional points-and-condenser ignition systems and more modern electronic ignition systems. John explained the relatively straightforward process of upgrading a traditional ignition with a Pertronix ignition kit. Thanks, John!

The photo at left is of the Zoom screen from the meeting, showing what the meeting looks like on a computer. Zoom participants can see the meeting room, fellow participants, and the presentation! Works great!

Project Updates from the Robin McGeorge Boat Shop!

(Above) Hayden and Carl Lapiska fashion a repair strip to be scarfed onto the rub rail on the forward starboard gunwale of their Super Sport.

(Above) Mark McKeehan, with help from Chris Sterlacci, apply bilge paint to the floorboards of the Continental.

(Above) Gordon Spriggs fashions the framing of the center deck of his Glen-L barrel back.

(Above) Seb Borrello and Bill Mott apply the first coat of shiny topside paint to Greg McIlvoy's Century Coronado.

(Above) Carl uses small wooden clamping blocks and screws to create a fine, tight joint of the scarfed repair piece in the rub rail. They'll shape it by hand next.

(Above) Chris McKeehan brings some serious organizational skills to the power tool shelf at the shop.

Next Monthly Meeting January 16, 2025

boatOur next meeting will be Thursday, January 16th, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Two Guys From Italy in Dallas. (There is no regular meeting in December, due to the Christmas Party.) Come at 5:30 and join us for the pre-meeting dinner. You'll receive an email reminder for the meeting a few days prior. We'll be continuing our door prize tradition, giving out an e-book, or print book of the lucky winner's choice, or a complimentary design of a boat show placard. In lieu of a presentation, we will be using our time together to lay out the plans for the 2025 season, including events throughout the area, program ideas, and other opportunities to enjoy our hobby together.

If you can't join in person, you'll be using the Zoom application for your cell phone or your home computer. To make things easier at meeting time, it would be a good idea for you to go to your normal smart phone app store to download Zoom Cloud Meetings, or go to Zoom.us on your home computer and sign up. Prior to the meeting, you will be sent an email with a link to join the meeting, and further instructions. Those who wait to download Zoom will also receive a link to do that just before the meeting starts. If you are among those who need a few attempts to be successful with technology, you may want to get the downloading taken care of ahead of time.

Our meetings are a great opportunity to socialize with fellow WBA members and to talk shop on questions on everything from paint and varnish to carburetor kits. Please join us on Zoom to be a part of our monthly fellowship!

Shop Talk and Musings: Thanks to our "FT", Scott Reichardt

When he first assumed the role of WBA Treasurer in 2016, Scott may not have known what he was getting himself into, which is often the case for our officers! Back then, the treasury had only a few thousand dollars in it, just enough to cover our annual operating expenses. During Scott's tenure, he earned the title of "Faithful Treasurer" or "FT", seeing the club through significant growth. Scott was the one who set up our laddered CDs, filed the necessary paperwork to create our 501 (c) 7 and fulfilled its annual reporting obligations, handled our club expenditures for shop rent, events, as well as reimbursements for supplies, nametags, flowers and other miscellaneous items. Scott also prepared and presented financial reports at our meetings. He has always been accurate, on-time and dedicated, even through periods of health problems and travel. Scott is now working on the transition of his duties to our new Treasurer, Chris McKeehan. We are grateful to Scott for his eight years of service to our club, and look forward to seeing him whenever our travels bring us to Lake LBJ.

And finally, please take a look in the shed or garage for leftover parts or other salable items you would like to donate to the Club. Contact David Kanally at david@historywithheart.com for more info.
