Mark Your Calendar: Banquet January 19!

January is just around the corner, and that means it's time for our Annual WBA Banquet at the Canyon Creek Country Club beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 19. Registration begins now, so click here to complete a reservation form!

Our program will be provided by Donna Hunt, former editor of the Denison-Sherman Herald-Democrat. An author and historian, Donna will bring warm, personal insights to the history of Denison and Yellow Jacket Boats. Don't miss this very special Banquet!

Annual Holiday Party A Glittering Gala!

Whether you measure your fun by quantity or quality, you would have to rate the Holiday Party pretty highly, we think, based on the smiling faces of the 45 WBA members, spouses and friends in attendance.

Special thanks go to Kanallys' dear friends, Michele and Craig Russell and to Cheryl's mom, Ardel, for their indispensable help in the planning and operation of the party. Happy Holidays to All! Watch the slideshow!

"Bigger Boats for Bigger Boys": Parish Treats Club to the Best

WBA Treasurer John Parish spent a great deal of time and effort in the preparation of a very interesting presentation of large ships, past and present, for the attendees of the November WBA Guest Night meeting at Two Guys from Italy in Dallas.

John took the group through the history of larger boats and ships, including ultra-luxurious private yachts and famous and infamous ocean liners through the years. Thanks, John for a thoroughly informative presentation!

Project Update: Jim Wolfe's Coronado

As we all know, not all WBA project work happens at the Lucas Shop. This month, we're leaving Lucas to head to Jim Wolfe's garage in Carrollton, where his glorious Century Coronado has received its final piece of woodwork.

Jim's next steps are decking and the interior. The fully restored hemi engine has been patiently waiting its return to the stringers. Before too long, Jim will have the boat of his dreams churning up Texas lakes!

February Meeting Devoted to Planning. Don't miss it!

Once the holidays and our annual banquet are behind us, it will be time to lay out our WBA calendar for 2013. As is our custom, the February meeting will be devoted to this important task. Join us on Thursday, February 21st at 7 p.m. at Two Guys from Italy at 11637 Webb Chapel Road, just south of Forest Road. WBA Treasurer and benefactor John Parish will be giving away one of his many boating and woodworking related books as a door prize. The February meeting will feature "Your First Workshop" by Aime Ontario Fraser.

Join us for a light meal and moderate libation at 5:30 p.m. at Two Guys from Italy prior to the meeting. We encourage you to join us for dinner, so we'll always have the required minimum number of diners to avoid a room charge.

Shop Talk and Musings:

The WBA has embarked on a community service project in support of Denison, home of Yellow Jacket Boats. The late Gene Ramey's widow, Wanda, has donated 44 Yellow Jacket transom blanks to the club. Bob Adair has come up with a clever design for a bench, reminiscent of a Yellow Jacket transom. There are enough blanks to make 10 of the benches, which we plan to offer to donors in Denison as a fundraiser for the community. The first bench is cut out, grooved and routered, and is nearing assembly and sanding. Special thanks to Lew White and Bob Adair for advancing this important project. Once the prototype bench is complete, we'll be building them to order at the Lucas shop, based on donations received. Stay tuned for how YOU can help. SEE PHOTOS.

And, finally:

Please take a look in the shed or garage for the leftover parts or other saleable items you can donate to the club. Bring them to any WBA meeting, or contact David Kanally at david@historywithheart.com for pickup.
