Major Kicks at Horseshoe Bay!

The Southwest Chapter of the ACBS has again outdone itself in the annual Austin Wooden Boat Show at Lake LBJ, October 20-22!  This year's event counted 48 boats, completely filling all the guest slips plus an entire row of covered slips at the posh Horseshoe Bay Resort.  Skippers hailed from as far away as Colorado and Florida.  Among the boats on display were a few of the WBA fleet:  Phil Wolff's and Les Burton's Centuries, Bob Van Guilder's Dart and David Kanally's Cowell outboard.  The weekend event included a hosted dinner, a Poker Run, the SW Chapter ACBS annual meeting, an informal "Skipper's Choice" and "People's Choice" judging and awards, and an Awards Banquet.  WBA Vice President Bob Van Guilder was elected a director of the Soutwest Chapter of ACBS, succeeding our own Dick Peterson.  Congratulations, Bob...and thank you, Dick, for your years of support and involvement, providing a strong link between the WBA and the SW Chapter of the ACBS! Bob Adair:  A Creative Force at Chrysler Boats

As the featured presenter at our October 19 meeting, Bob Adair treated the Club to a showing of a wide variety of designs he created during his long career at Chrysler Boats in Plano.  Bob displayed a number of his original renderings of decks and interiors, complemented by photographs of those boats in actual production.   A particular source of pride for Bob was a high performance runabout concept boat, completely of his own design, which made it into production (see photo above left).  The boat's blue metal-flake finish posed some challenges in production (according to fellow Chrysler Boats vet Lew White), but made for a very stylish and popular boat.  Thanks, Bob, for sharing your talent with us!
