The Classic Corral at the State Fair of Texas never looked so good as it did on Columbus Day, October 9, as ten WBA members' boats were matched with same-year (or nearly same-year) American cars belonging to members of the Classic Chassis Car Club of Dallas. Boats ranging in vintage from 1931 to 1959 were staged with Packards, Cadillacs, and Lincolns from the 40s and 50s, true land yachts in both ride and dimension. (see more pictures)
A picture-perfect day of sunny, mild weather and a large and curious crowd combined to make the day a real success. Thanks to all the Skippers who participated, and a special thanks to John McCall and the members of the Classic Chassis Car Club of Dallas for suggesting this great concept.
Sam Westbrook shared his passion for nautical flags as the program for the WBA's September meeting. Sam's well-prepared talk featured slides and flags from his collection, punctuated by Sam's own brand of humor. Thanks, Sam, for sharing your interest in this important aspect of nautical tradition!
As the boating season and the water levels continue to wind down, we'll be discussing:
The Lake LBJ/Austin Wooden Boat Show, October 20-22: Already several members have expressed an interest, and we'll be talking details. Headquarters for the event will be the spectacular Marriott resort at Horseshoe Bay! The hotel is already booked, so check with nearby properties for availability.
Election of 2007 Officers: It's time to put forth a slate of officers for next year. The current plan, in keeping with recent practice, will be for the current officers to continue in their roles for a second year, but our bylaws permit annual changes. Please let your wishes be known at the meeting.
Holiday Party, December 2: It's not too early to put the Holiday Party on your social calendar on December 2, 2006. The party will be held at David and Cheryl Kanally's house in Coppell. Invitations forthcoming.
Quick-Draw is located at 11220 Gemini Lane, Dallas, TX 75205. Directions to QuickDraw can be found on our website, http://woodenboatassociation.com.
