Terry Westbrook brought his knowledge, images and videos to inform the Club of the vital role the lakes of the Highland Lakes chain play in the flood protection, water conservation and recreation of the Texas Hill Country. Many thanks to Terry for his great presentation on June 15!
Special reminder: The July 20th meeting will be held at Benefits Mall, not at Quick Draw--see below!
From static displays at along the art-deco inspired Promenade of Dallas' Fair Park (left and right) to runs in and out of Pier 121 on Lake Lewisville (center), the WBA's June activities gave Skippers and their boats plenty of opportunity to shine.
The Fair Park event on Father's Day, June 18th, was part of the Friends of Fair Park-sponsored "Sundays in the Park" series. Five boats were displayed, each at the foot of one of the magnificent statues dominating the walkways of the park's Promenade. Robin McGeorge's Speedliner, Just 4 Fun, made her third public appearance since restoration (photo above left) and Bob Van Guilder's 1931 Fine Wine (photo above right) was right at home in Fair Park's '30's vintage art deco surroundings. Rounding out the club's representation were Phil Wolff's Resorter Boo Boo, Jim Wolfe's Coronado project, and David Kanally's Cowell King outboard. Thanks to these Skippers who shared their Father's Day for the good of the club, and the good of Fair Park.
"Classics on the Lake" was the name chosen for the second annual classic car and boat show organized by the WBA and the North Texas Region of the Classic Car Club of America. This year's show was at Pier 121, where Commodore Katina Real was a real catalyst for a successful event. Fourteen boats were on display, and skippers took advantage of the hot, sunny day to make several runs (and even go for a swim or two!). A curious and delighted public enjoyed classic cars ranging from 30's vintage Rolls to '70s Jags, as well as finely restored wooden boats of all ages and descriptions.
Beginning with a banquet at the Argyle farm of Al and Sarah Kroemer on Friday evening, August 25, then on to the traditional Ride 'n Show activities on the docks of Eagle Point Marina to a banquet on Saturday night at Sneaky Pete's and a rumbling run on Sunday morning, the annual Ride 'n Show promises to be a record event. Invitations and online registration forms are out. Don't miss this year's Ride 'n Show!!
