WBA Time-Travels to Golden Age of Yachting

A 45' Hacker, the 1934 America's Cup contender Endeavor and the Elco Guy were part of the April Meeting presentation

The April meeting featured a presentation of boats, engines and yachting in the 1930s by WBA President David Kanally.  Entitled "The Golden Age of Yachting", the presentation included a slide show of period photographs, articles and advertisements of various aspects of the marine industry.  Marine engines whose names have long disappeared, a unique stern drive system with "pull-me" propellers that never made it into the mainstream, and insights into the contentious 1934 America's Cup race were presented.  David brought along a 1934 Yachting magazine, a 1934 Yachtsman's Handbook and other artifacts for club members to examine.

Lisa Daniels' Watercolor of Aeolus Unveiled at April Meeting

Club members were treated to the unveiling of Lisa R. Daniels' recent work, a watercolor of the Kanallys' 1934 Columbia River One Design (CROD) sailboat.  The backdrop of the piece includes the construction drawings of the craft, reflecting Lisa's training as a draftsman.  This watercolor and Lisa's other work may be seen at http://LRDaniels.com

A print of the work has been donated to the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria Oregon, where the boat was built.  The watercolor has been added to volumes of photographs, drawings and articles regarding the class already in the museum's archives.  The museum's shop will offer prints for sale.  More information is available at http://geocities.com/crodhull3.

A second print will hang in the main foyer of the Portland, Oregon Yacht Club, where several boats of the CROD class resided...along "CROD Row" from 1934 well into the 1960s.
