Project Updates from the Robin McGeorge Boat Shop!
(Above) Gordon Spriggs beds the aft deck underlayment of his Glen-L barrel back. Traditional planking will top the underlayment.
(Above) Mark and Chris McKeehan apply the final coat of bilge paint to some floor boards and interior panels of their '59 Chris-Craft Continental.
(Above) Barney Gulley recently snuck his Yellow Jacket seats into the guest bedroom for varnishing during inclement weather. He has since been kicked out.
(Above) Under the watchful eye of Bill Mott (l), Greg McIlvoy applies another coat of white Interlux Brightside to the foredeck of his '56 Century Coronado.
Jay Emerson has had a breathtaking 2014 Riva 34' AquaRiva in his shop recently for some woodwork. Jay was tickled pink to be able to work on such a noble craft. |

(Above) Gordon's barrel back is really starting to take its final form. The next step will be meticulous...cutting, grooving and fitting the deck planks.
(Above) Chris McKeehan does a nice job of cleaning the Continental's gauge cluster. The gauges are in pretty good shape cosmetically. With any luck, they'll work fine!
(Above) Carl Lapiska uses a fine block plane to shape a rub rail repair piece that he and son Hayden scarfed onto their '64 Chris-Craft Super Sport.
(Above) Bill looks pretty happy with the latest coat of paint on the McIlvoys' Coronado. One more coat or two ought to do it!
Bill Mott (l) welcomed new members Jerry and Debbie Brubaker to the shop recently, when they showed us their rare 1955 Yellow Jacket Catalina 12-footer. |
Next Monthly Meeting January 16, 2025
Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 16th, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Two Guys From Italy in Dallas. Come at 5:30 and join us for the pre-meeting dinner. You'll receive an email reminder for the meeting a few days prior. We'll be continuing our door prize tradition, giving out an e-book, or print book of the lucky winner's choice, or a complimentary design of a boat show placard. In lieu of a presentation, we will be using our time together to lay out the plans for the 2025 season, including events throughout the area, program ideas, and other opportunities to enjoy our hobby together.
If you can't join in person, you'll be using the Zoom application for your cell phone or your home computer. To make things easier at meeting time, it would be a good idea for you to go to your normal smart phone app store to download Zoom Cloud Meetings, or go to Zoom.us on your home computer and sign up. Prior to the meeting, you will be sent an email with a link to join the meeting, and further instructions. Those who wait to download Zoom will also receive a link to do that just before the meeting starts. If you are among those who need a few attempts to be successful with technology, you may want to get the downloading taken care of ahead of time.
Our meetings are a great opportunity to socialize with fellow WBA members and to talk shop on questions on everything from paint and varnish to carburetor kits. Please join us on Zoom to be a part of our monthly fellowship!
Shop Talk and Musings: Recognizing Our Signalperson, Lisa Daniels
Have you ever wondered who sends cards and flowers to our hospitalized WBA members? It's our Signalperson, Lisa Daniels. As soon as Lisa learns of a serious illness or injury among our members, she arranges for cards and flowers to be sent on behalf of the Club. She also takes care of floral arrangements or other tributes to be sent to the services for deceased members. It's all part of the "Cares and Concerns" part of the WBA family culture.
Thanks, Lisa, for taking such good care of us in our time of need. The photo at left was taken at the WBA Christmas Party on December 7, when David Kanally presented Lisa a gift on behalf of the Club in appreciation for her work. In the background, applauding, are Ann and John Hallam and David Sheets.
And finally, please take a look in the shed or garage for leftover parts or other salable items you would like to donate to the Club. Contact David Kanally at david@historywithheart.com for more info. |
