Holiday Party Glitzy and Fun!

About 40 WBA members, spouses, significant others and friends enjoyed a lovely evening welcoming in the 2011-2012 Holiday season at President and First Lady Jim and Rhonda Wolfe's home in Carrollton on Saturday, December 3. Above, Nancy and Les Burton, Stan Lehnhardt and Charles Bowser sample some of the great goodies that were served. Below, avowed Century Man, Phil Wolff, holds his Coronado tie up against Jim Wolfe's Coronado restoration project.

Above, in what is becoming a WBA tradition, the ladies pose for the annual "why wouldn't you want to be part of this group?" photo. Below, the Wolfes had a Century Coronado cake complete with the WBA logo and a Merry Christmas greeting to finish the night in tasteful style.

You can relive this wonderful event right now, if you want to! See a slideshow of the evening's festivities by clicking here.

Lucas Shop Never Sleeps!

Troy Marshall and Robin McGeorge both suffer from BPADD (Boat Project Attention Deficit Disorder), so they are now working on a pair of Chrysler Marine Hemis. Above left, one of the engines is in the teardown phase.

Marc Hill's '68 Grand Prix is ready for bottom paint now, with transom boards on and all bungs faired. He'll need to tape off the waterline before painting begins.

Above right, the other Hemi, this one a 1957 354, is complete and ready to be put in some lucky boat somewhere. Yes, of course we have a video of the Hemi running! You can watch and listen by clicking here!

Marc's side planks (at least the ones that need to be put on before the bottom is painted and the boat is righted), are in place and are faired.

Next Monthly Meeting Feb. 16, 2012. Don't miss it!

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 16th at the Two Guys from Italy restaurant's private room.

Join us for a light meal and moderate libation at 5:30 p.m. at Two Guys from Italy prior to the meeting.

Shop Talk and Musings:

There has been much joy in our celebrations this Christmas season, but sorrow has touched the WBA as well. We mourn the loss of two people with connections to our Club. Gene Ramey of Denison, who joined the WBA during our Yellow Jacket initiative, passed away on December 23. He was one of the last surviving managers from the early days of Yellow Jacket, where he worked in the fifties. He shared his memories of his time at the Yellow Jacket Boat Company in 2009. We are grateful to Gene for his contributions to Texas wooden boating history, and will miss him dearly. We learned also that Dr. Bernard "Buzz" Jack, father of Pam Marshall, passed away on Christmas day. Our sincere condolences are extended to Pam, Troy and the family as they struggle through this difficult time. We are also mindful of the quiet but important work done by our Signalperson, Lisa Daniels, during these times of need. Lisa sends expressions of comfort from our Club in the form of cards or flowers to our members who are ill or grieving. Thank you Lisa, for all you do.

And, finally:

Please take a look in the shed or garage for the leftover parts or other saleable items you can donate to the club. Bring them to any WBA meeting, or contact Phil Wolff at myoldboats@gmail.com for pickup. Mike Gomes did just this in November, and he feels great about the donations he's made to the Club. Thanks, Mike!!
